I miss music

It's been like, a year since I played my last gig.

I can't believe I typed that last sentence. I have been working for a band this
past year and watched more rock shows than any man should endure. I never
realized what an addiction music is. There's been a hollow feeling in me since
early last year when Clint (bass, Secret Order of TUSK) moved to Houston. We have an album almost done, but I feel without a band.

The only way to explain being in a band to a non musician is to compare it to
being in a relationship. It is a relationship, you share expenses, appear together
often, eat together, fight, and ride together in a van on trips. The brunt of the
relationship is rehearsal. This is the nuts and bolts of a band, if you can hold
it together here, you have a fighting chance at survival. I've had worse fights at rehearsal than in any relationship with a woman. The attacks are far more biting
and deep. No nerve is left covered, no wound without salt. I've seen blood and
tears in rehearsal rooms. A man (or woman) is serving their muse when playing an
instrument, your soul is bare and the wind is blowing. It does not matter if you suck or you are the greatest virtuoso, there's no editing, there's just what you delivered.
It's a feeling of being on edge that you get addicted to.

So what am I listening to?

Does anyone care?

Damone-

Some rock band from somewhere that sounds polished, but not quite there.
They kick ass, but they need my buddy Davy Vain behind the console to make them rock even harder. They have a song called Out Here All Night, that rocks like hell, but there's a little bragging missing. It's poppy as hell so there, suck it...

Hermano-

I heard Only a Suggestion a while back on tour eating a hungover breakfast
then promptly forgot that I liked it. This band just lays it down. Everybody should be over Kyuss by now, John just rocks out a killer vocal. He sexes it up and delivers a serious rock and roll vibe. The rest of the band backs it up with killer grooves. Fuck Kyuss, all the band members have gone on to make some killer
records and any fan should be happy that a bunch of great musicians have gone on to make some great fucking records.

On that note, I'm off to find a copy of Scott Reeder's new record....

Jazz Musician Quote

"I never practice my guitar. From time to time I just open the case
and throw in a piece of raw meat."
