Artists have until June 30th to claim SoundExchange money

On September 15, 2006, SoundExchange first posted the lists of featured artists and sound recording copyright owners who have not yet claimed their royalties. Since that date, 1823 Artists and 787 Copyright Owners have come forward and contacted SoundExchange, either directly or through their advisors, to claim their royalties. SoundExchange thanks all those who have helped us in our pursuit to pay these deserving artists and record labels.

The link below takes you to a list containing the names of all reported featured recording artists who stand to lose those royalties collected from services making digital transmissions of copyrighted sound recordings pursuant to statutory license between April 1, 2000 and October 31, 2002 if they do not register with SoundExchange by June 30, 2007. In addition, the list contains the names of reported featured artists who stand to lose royalties for digital transmissions of copyrighted sound recordings from February 1996 through March 2000. While the deadline for registering to claim these funds has passed, SoundExchange has created a reserve of royalties earned during this four-year period. This will allow flexibility for those who have not yet registered and accommodate ongoing outreach efforts. The reserve has been created with 30 percent of monies from the undistributed royalties accumulated from digital performances between February 1996 and March 31, 2000 that are being released as unclaimed funds. Artists and labels (rights owners) have access to the reserve funds on a first-come, first-served basis. This means is that if artists and labels entitled to some of the money from this 1996-2000 period register with SoundExchange then those artists and labels will be paid the full amount they are due--provided that there are funds available to cover the payment. The 30 percent fund does not currently have an expiration date but once the balance of those funds have been paid out, no additional payments will be made.

The list is NOT the complete list of all those featured artists with unclaimed royalties, but rather only those subject to lose royalties pursuant to Copyright Office regulations.

If your name or your group's name appears on this list, or you legally represent a featured artist on this list, please clickhere to download the appropriate forms and mail or fax them in no later than June 30, 2007. If you are unable to download the forms and need them mailed or faxed or should you have any questions, please feel free to email us at info@soundexchange.com or call 202-640-5858.

If your name is not on this list and you are a recording artist who has performed as the featured artist on commercially released sound recordings, and you know you have not already registered with SoundExchange, please register with us as we may already have royalties for you or may receive royalties for you in the future if your recordings are performed by digital music services.

If you know any of the featured artists contained on this list or have contact information for them, we would greatly appreciate it if you would notify them that SoundExchange is looking to pay them the royalties they are due.
